Oathbreaker - Senior Artist Gallery
Project type
Illustrative Storytelling
Date
April 30th-June 8th
Location
North Easton, MA
The goal of this project was to tell a simple story as many ways as I could visually. A short story was written in advance and was adapted visually afterwards. Whether it be through ink comic pages directly adapting the story or through illustrating artifacts from the story itself, this exhibit sought to bring the world depicted in Oathbreaker alive for viewers.
The story of Oathbreaker follows the young holy knight Luciel on the eve of his first taste of war in the fictional country of Gallivere. The enemy attacks the structure that he and his men are staying at, and in the panic that ensues, he accidently kills a brother in arms. Confronted with the reality of war, Luciel flees the abbey and encounters the mythical creature Fi in the surrounding forest. Acting as a pseudo-physical representation of his faith, Luciel attempts to kill the beast but struggles to touch it until he closes his eyes. Blind to the horrors now, he is able to cut the horse-like being down, but finds himself to be nothing more than a wandering husk of a man by doing so. What is a person without their faith?
